Advanced: Third-Party Interventions in Georgia’s Elections

Allegations of Russian interference in Georgia’s 2024 parliamentary elections—including cyberattacks, disinformation, and support for pro-Russian groups—have raised concerns about electoral integrity. Meanwhile, Western actors like the U.S. and EU provide election monitoring and technical aid, sparking debate over democracy protection versus national sovereignty.
This session will examine the impact of external influence on Georgia’s elections, the role of international organizations in safeguarding democracy, and strategies to prevent future interference.

Higher Intermediate: Development and Social Cohesion in Post-Conflict Kosovo
Kosovo’s post-conflict development is shaped by economic fragility, political tensions, and ethnic divisions rooted in the 1998–1999 war. While infrastructure was rebuilt, challenges like high unemployment, reliance on remittances, and weak foreign investment persist.
Social cohesion remains fragile, with ongoing tensions between the Albanian majority and Serb minority, many of whom reject Kosovo’s independence. Delegates must evaluate how their country’s stance on sovereignty, past conflicts, and regional stability influences its approach to Kosovo’s economic recovery and reconciliation efforts.

Lower Intermediate: International Cooperation for Nuclear Disarmament
Nuclear disarmament requires global cooperation to reduce stockpiles while balancing security concerns. Treaties like the NPT, CTBT, and TPNW have made progress, but challenges remain due to geopolitical tensions, regional conflicts, and nuclear deterrence policies.
New technologies, including AI and hypersonic missiles, further complicate disarmament efforts. This session will examine ways to rebuild trust among nuclear powers, strengthen existing treaties, and address the concerns of both nuclear and non-nuclear states in creating a safer, more stable world.

Beginner: The Status of Internally Displaced Refugees (Armenian Committee)

Intermediate: Illegal Drug Cartels and Crime in Latin America
Drug cartels in Latin America threaten regional stability, driving violence, corruption, and economic hardship while expanding their global influence. The high demand for cocaine in wealthier nations sustains these networks, forcing rural farmers into coca cultivation due to poverty and coercion.
Weak law enforcement and political instability allow cartels to infiltrate governments and operate freely. Beyond crime, their activities fuel deforestation and illegal mining, especially in the Amazon. Combating this crisis requires international cooperation, economic alternatives for farmers, and stronger anti-corruption efforts to dismantle cartel power.

UNHRC
Beginner: Violation of Women's Rights in Conflict Areas
Women in conflict zones face severe rights violations, including sexual violence, displacement, lack of healthcare, and marginalization. Over 600 million women and girls live in conflict-affected regions, with cases rising in Syria, Sudan, and Ukraine.
Despite global efforts, weak legal protections and social stigma often hinder justice and recovery. Ensuring women's safety and rights requires stronger laws, more humanitarian aid, and greater inclusion of women in peacebuilding and post-conflict recovery. Addressing these issues is essential for both immediate protection and lasting peace.
“The Dilijan Model United Nations brings together delegates from Armenia and beyond to engage in debates and collaboration on pressing global issues. This conference offers a valuable opportunity to recognize that reality is inherently subjective — each of us interprets it differently, particularly in the context of nations, where diverse socio-economic structures shape unique perspectives on how these issues manifest. Additionally, you will connect with open-minded individuals who will elevate diplomatic discussions into dynamic exchanges of theories and approaches, fostering both intellectual challenge and creative conflict.”

- Manvel Hovhannisyan, Secretary General
Beyond fostering global awareness, the Dilijan Model United Nations is a catalyst for personal growth. This transformation is rooted in the recognition that we all hold implicit assumptions, often without realizing it. Meaningful engagement with diverse perspectives requires active and thoughtful listening, which, at times, challenges our preconceived notions. DiliMUN provides a platform for heightened self-awareness, allowing participants to critically examine their biases — barriers that, when acknowledged, can pave the way for integrating seemingly disparate perspectives.”

- Eva Kudryavtseva, Secretary General
